November 13th, 2010

The Long Beach Junior Chamber in conjunction with the Long Beach Police Foundation (LBPF) is proud to present the 16th Annual Shop with a Cop Children’s Shopping Spree.

The event is produced to bring awareness and assist economically disadvantage children from the Long Beach area by providing a positive experience in purchasing school uniforms and needed supplies.

Children are pre-selected from the Long Beach community through the Boys and Girls Club and invited to be our guests at the shopping event. Each child is matched with a Junior Chamber member or adult shopper, and a Long Beach Police Officer. Each child is given a dollar amount to purchase clothing for various school needs (often the only new clothes these children ever receive all year).

The children are also treated to breakfast at HomeTown Buffet and to a party where they receive snacks and school supplies, including a backpack, paper, pencils, and a lunch box. The children are entertained with help of volunteers, community leaders and business sponsors

A Positive Shopping Experience
On Saturday the November 13, the Long Beach Junior Chamber, Wal-Mart store staff members, additional volunteers, Long Beach Police Officers, will come together, prior to the start of the standard business day, and take approximately 100 children shopping. Each Police Officer will be matched with a child and given approximately $100 to purchase school uniforms, shoes and other necessities. Extra funds and in-kind donations will be used to provide the children with notebooks, pencils, backpacks and other supplies.

We need your support to fulfill the potential of this event. It is a fantastic day for the kids, officers, and all the volunteers that come together to make it happen!

The Long Beach Police Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) organization - 33-0835185. All donations are tax deductible.
